Greg had the best morning show in the market. Always fresh, innovative, very original and funny. Characters like Mrs. Cleaver, The Weather Fairy, Mr. Friendly, etc., Nuclear Sports with Jeff Chase, Don Agony with traffic and Uncle Walter gave the forecast on a daily basis. They all worked so well together. Creativity was what that show was all about! I have many, many stories and I wouldn't trade them for the world. What a way to get started into radio!!!
Randy Thomas was always very smooth and encouraging. She had a very popular midday show and I learned a lot from her. I was out in LA back in the early 90's and she was on the radio out there. I looked her up and we met up for lunch. She has been the announcer for the Academy Awards, the Tony Awards and various other Big time voice over gigs including "Hooked On Phonics." She currently has a recording studio in SW Florida. I e-mailed her these videos and she wrote back that she showed them to her daughter and they both loved it and had a good laugh.
Rick Shaw the south Florida radio legend was my first Program Director. I was shy and unsure of myself the first few weeks at the station. I remember passing by the studio, looking in and Rick waved to me to come inside the studio. I walked in and he introduced himself and starting explaining all about the mixing board. He mentioned it's like flying a 747 at first, but before you know it, you'll know what everything does. It was intimidating at the beginning, but he was right! Rick taught me so much about running a tight show, talking up the ramps of songs and just having fun on the air!
That whole experience was about learning to do radio in the most professional way and taking pride in what you do! They were the very best as far as teachers and I feel very lucky that I got my start with these incredible talents.
I was very proud to have been a small part of WAXY-106 and walk amongst such giants!
